Citizens of all countries not listed above are required a visa from a Costa Rican embassy or consulate before traveling.
What to bring
Pack light. Loose-fitting clothes are the best when visiting lowlands. High humidity and the occasional shower will get your clothes wet, try to always have plastic bags in your luggage to protect the dry clothes as well as your other belongings. Bathing suits and shorts.
If you plan to visit the high elevations, bring a sweater the temperature changes dramatically. Light-weight hiking, tennis or good tracking shoes are recommended. River shoes or waterproof sandals are a good idea to bring to bring on your trip.
Caps and/or wide brim hats are highly recommended for the beach, hiking, horseback riding and boat trips. Sun block (please use it) with SPF 29-40. Insect repellant with at least 75% DEET. Sunglasses, personal toiletries, day pack or back pack, binoculars and camera film (more expensive here) and a rain coat.
Location
Costa Rica is bordered to the north with Nicaragua and to the southeast by Panama, to the west by the Pacific Ocean with 1016 km (630mi) and to the East by the Caribbean Sea with 212km (131 mi). With only 5100 square km (19000 square mi) Costa Rica is the size of West Virginia. A series of mountain ranges divide the country and in between these mountain ranges is the heart of Costa Rica the Central Valley. This is where most of the population leaves and where most of the industry is located. San José is the capital and most of the government buildings are located within its limits. Museums, theaters, restaurants, shopping malls, fast-food chains, colorful markets and a fine climate are part of the central valley.
