Climate
Climate Costa Rica in a tropical country situated between the 8-11 degrees North of the equator line. There is not a distinctive season in Costa Rica. The main difference is in the amount of rain for each time of the year. Late December to mid-April is the dryer season, which is when Costa Rica gets most of its visitors. So it is also know as the high season for tourism so prices are higher and hotels are full.
The wet or green season is from May to mid-December, but it does not mean that it rains constantly all day long or every day. Usually, mornings are sunny and rain in the afternoon. September to mid-October are the wettest months. The transitional time between the two seasons should give you the best experience, depending on what area of the country you are visiting. April to mid-May and October to mid- December are the transitional times. |

The Caribbean cost is wetter most of the year so it is always green, the wettest month being July and November and the driest months are February and March. On the Pacific slope the months, which bring the most rain, are September and October. The northern Pacific part of the country experiences much intense dry season, it might not rain in several months and the winds in the lower land are very strong. The southern Pacific part of the country gets more rain during the green season that the other parts of the Pacific side. |
As far as temperature goes it does not vary between these two seasons, it varies more with altitude. The Central Valley has a very pleasant weather ranging from 60-75 through the year. December and January are usually very windy months and a little more cooler because of cold drafts from the north winds. The coastal areas are much hotter from 70 at night to about 86-90 during the day, the Caribbean coast is more humid so it feel much hotter than the Pacific side.
