Having coastline on two oceans is quite an advantage, since when one ocean is flat, there is usually something breaking on the other side of the country. Often enough, there is good surf pumping on both coasts. The country's surf is complemented by its comfortable water temperatures -- you can leave that wet suit at home -- beautiful scenery and the convenience of a variety of accommodations and restaurants near most breaks make this a paradise for surfers.
The major swell season is April to October, but the clean surf season is December to April when swell from deep antic lows reach the Pacific coastline with offshore winds a common occurrence. Typically morning surfs are offshore and afternoon are light onshore.
So what's the weather like? This area has a wet, tropical climate with high temperatures in its 30's every month. Rainfall determines seasons rather than the temperature, and the rainy season is between May to November.
There are four regions that can be surfed, Caribbean, North Pacific, Central Pacific and South Pacific. The following is a description of each region and the beaches that can be found:
